As you will be aware Cisco have published their ‘Recommended Reading List’ for all candidates wishing to become CCIE certified.
The list can be located here: Cisco’s CCIE Reading List
This is an extensive list and if reading cover to cover, one you will probably spend a lifetime trying to read.
I tend to use these books as more of a reference to look up topics and help me understand specific things about technologies, or even as something to jog my memory.
2 books I would highly recommend reading though from this list is Jeff Doyles Routing TCP/IP Volume I and II. These books are excellent. All the topics are well explained and go in to a great amount of detail. There are also scenarios you can lab out to test you knowledge and quiz questions.
On my bookshelf I have the following books (Got some great 2nd hand deals off Amazon):
- Routing TCP/IP Volume I
- Routing TCP/IP Volume II
- Troubleshooting IP Routing Protocols
- End-To-End QoS Network Design
- Cisco Catalyst QoS
- Building IP Resilient Networks
- Cisco LAN Switching
- MPLS and VPN Architectures
- Developing IP Multicast Networks Volume I
- Tcl Scripting for Cisco IOS – Not on the reading list but useful all the same.
- CCIE Routing & Switching v5.0 Official Cert Guide, Volume 1
- CCIE Routing & Switching v5.0 Official Cert Guide, Volume 2
